Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) elevates Wong Pupo, Batu Lintang Waterfall as the next rural tourism destination in Sarawak

SRI AMAN, 4 November 2022 – Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Julaihi Bin Haji Narawi, Minister of Utility and Communication Sarawak, today officiated the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) at Batu Lintang, Sri Aman. The launching of MySRBN Batu Lintang is a significant milestone as it shows the government’s serious commitment in addressing the connectivity issues in rural Sarawak.

MySRBN is an initiative under the component of Sarawak Linking, Urban, Rural and Nation (SALURAN) aiming to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural by improving 4G coverage in rural areas by enabling consumers to use data services and make calls seamlessly. Todate, it has served 158 places and connected 15,457 homes throughout Sarawak, with an additional of 36 locations expected to receive the service by the end of this year.  In Sri Aman, MySRBN service is available in 10 sites including, Kampung Lingga, Melugu, Selepong Jinggau, Lachau Kara Road, Bukit Temudok, San Kemantan, Merindun, Engkelili, Kampung Sebangki and Batang Ai.

MySRBN uses Fixed Wireless Broadband (FWB) technology, allowing quick implementation of the technology by utilising existing infrastructure and provide unlimited access to rural and suburban populations throughout Sarawak, as well as internet speeds up to 30 Mbps.

With the launching of this MySRBN, Batu Lintang and its nearby area, it allows active participation in Sarawak digital economy journey.  MySRBN directly enables e-commerce, rural tourism, online learning and many more. Sarawak is well known with many interesting places for rural tourism such as Wong Pupo Waterfall, a hidden gem in the Batu Lintang that needs world’s attention. With the availability of the internet, Wong Pupo has bright potential in attracting digital nomad from around the world and thus, improving the economic activities in the area.

MySRBN opens world of opportunities to Batu Lintang community and gives a significant shift in communication, where with MySRBN, they can now participate in rural tourism and attract digital nomad. With good connectivity, digital nomad can now choose Batu Lintang as one of their preferred destinations whilst relishing mother nature, they can also enjoy seamless communication.
