SEBANGAN, 13 November 2022 – High speed internet access is now available in
3 localities, namely Sg. Ladong, Sg. Bilis, and Senangeh thanks to the
Sarawak Multimedia Authority Rural Telecommunication (SMART) tower and
Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) service.
The launched today was made by Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Julaihi Bin Haji
Narawi, Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak himself are equipped
with Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) and Fixed Wireless Broadband (FWB)
technology.
Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), Mr
Sudarnoto Osman in his statement today said “Through SALURAN initiative, I hope
this will be a starting point towards a better internet connectivity in Sarawak and
enable Sarawakians to stay connected and bridge the digital gap between rural
and urban areas. SDEC aims to target 36,000 premises to enjoy MySRBN service by
end of year 2023.
The Sarawak government introduced Sarawak, Linking, Urban, Rural and Nation
(SALURAN) initiative by expanding and upgrading 4G coverage and among the
components under SALURAN include, the SMART and MySRBN services. With the
aid from these initiatives, the rural community as well as small businesses can now
use data services in making calls easily, brings communications to greater levels
either in their daily life usage or to spread their businesses.
Mainstream mobile providers like Digi, Maxis, Celcom, and UMobile can now
leverage on SMART infrastructure thanks to Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN)
technology, allowing users a seamless communication experience without having
to bring additional phones and simcards only to enjoy internet connectivity. This
sharing strategy may reduce overall operating costs in addition to lowering mobile
providers’ investments in new infrastructure.
MySRBN, on the other hand, makes use of Fixed Wireless Broadband (FWB)
technology, enabling faster service deployment by utilising existing infrastructure.
The government determined that every Sarawakians in every nooks and corners,
must have access to home broadband at an affordable cost to enable seamless
learning, e-commerce, internet banking and other economic activities. Rural and
suburban communities in Sarawak have unlimited access to the internet through
MySRBN, which offers download speeds of up to 30 Mbps.
The MySRBN home broadband package, which is now available in Senanggeh, Sg.
Ladong, and Sg. Bilis, is designed for home usage. Anyone within the coverage area
is eligible to register online for MySRBN home broadband. For registration, please
